Instructions

Principle

A golf ball is attached to a firm cord. By virtue of the registered ball-to-cord connection the ball will attain its natural rotation after being struck. A spindle, to be anchored in centre playground, functions to adjust the length of the cord. Prepared zones serve as approach shot targets. Due to the ball-stop properties of the device, the ball will not run off, limiting the size of the playground to a maximum of 20m/23 yards, thereby allowing for two or more players to compete. Chi – Pi is suited to stage competitions and tournaments.

Preliminaries
• Pull anchor/”U”-clamp from its fixture.
• Open velcro fastening (rear) and fold it up to the front.
• Twist cord from the plug/ball stopper.
• Unwind a length of cord * from the spindle as desired.
• Close strap.
• Shift strap towards the cord outlet up to the limit.
• Place spindle in centre playground.
Outdoor anchoring: Place anchor above cord outlet and remaining cord between rim of the spindle and strap (see figure). By vertical pressure, push anchor to limits into the lawn.
Indoor fixture: Paste enclosed self-adhesive velcro fastening to a book cover. Take “U”-clamp from the strap and fasten spindle onto the book.
• Grab the ball and stretch cord to ball-stop-limit.
• Within both sections of the playground mark target zones **, corresponding to the chosen ball-stop limit.
Get going!

* Length of cord: The player will determine the length of cord, unwinding a convenient stretch of cord from the spindle. Maximum length of the cord is 10m/11 yards.
** Target zones: Target zones are laid out using for instance hula-hoops, tapes, jumping ropes, golf clubs, umbrellas, cardboard, baskets, rings, mats of all kind, towels etc. and placing them within ball-stop limits.
In competition, a player or team will score by successful strokes (carry) to target zones.

Ball-stop properties /Ball-stop limit
After landing the ball will run no further than to full stretch of the cord – called “ball-stop limit”. Should the ball still be airborne when reaching full stretch of the cord, it will immediately be stopped, “dropping dead”. The play may then be resumed from its still point.
Correct position of the ball
Place the ball in order to avoid hitting it with the club. Ideally, the cord should extend opposite the player and be set at an angle of 90° from the direction of the intended stroke
Practicing Modes of the game

„Rules of the Game“– pertaining to Chipi
1. Players decide by lot as to who will have the honour.
2. Teeing-off may be performed from any spot at ball-stop limits.
3. Players alternate – one stroke each.
4. Subsequent to scoring, the opponent will tee-off (see No.2).
5. If a stroke has not yielded a score, the opponent will commence from the ball’s still point.
6. Following a partial result – for instance a „set“ or on counting „halftime“ – opponents will change sides.
IMPROVING THE LIE:
Should a player’s stroke be restricted by the position of a target zone marking, he or she may „improve the lie“ laterally.

Versions of the Game
1 „Variable Passageway“
2 „Spot Landing“
3 „Hole out“
4. „Chip and Putt“

The above suggestions illustrate the variability of playing Chi – Pi. There are no limits to players’ imagination in creating novel games. The same holds true for the selection of target zones. In accordance with differing capacities of the players, the modes of the game may be combined in a suitable manner.

 Preparation

  • Remove ball from support
  • Unwind cord completely
  • Remove transpotation frame and put aside
  • Push anchor tee into the ground and spread out the rope (free space check)
  • Align the line in a U-shape between ball and anchor tee. Ball and anchor tee make up the two open ends of the U-shape, the closed end is positioned as far as possible in the direction of the target
  • Position the ball approx. 2-3 m to the left or right of the anchor tee and when aligning the ball ensure that the line support on the ball is safely out of the way and will not be hit.
  • Now you are ready to hit the ball

Positioning the ball

Always be sure to align the ball so that the coloured plug (used to connect ball and cord) is positioned on the far side and at 90° to your target line, so that the plug can not be damaged through a powerful strike with the golf club.

Post-impact

After striking the ball, it will fly from anchor tee a maximum of 18 metres forwards. The elastic cord will then cause it to return to the ground, whereupon it will rollback on the other side of the anchor tee until stillstand without that the line will climb-down. From here, it can be hit again immediately as the cord is automatically positioned in a U-shape in the direction of the target.

Space requirements

An open, flat area with a minimum size of 18 x 6 metres and free of people, animals, trees, fences or other obstacles is required to use the Golf-Back-Ball.

Always test before use
Always start with driver “iron 7“ and test the ground conditions. Adjust your club choice according to the results and available space. Or set up the return effect adjuster.
Test result / ball-back-effect Performance
Ball returns to the side of the anchor tee but does not travel far enough. Select a longer club or short the elastic cord
Ball returns to the side of the anchor tee but travels too far Select a shorter club
Ball fails to return to the side of anchor point Stand further to the side of the anchor tee

On the crumby and wetly land or higher lawn you need a stronger return effect.

You can reach a stronger return effect shortening the elastic cord!

Draft the loop connexion - which is fixed between the traction and elastic cord - once around the anchor tee. Now you can shord the elastic cord as desired ( max. 2 meters).

Wrap the shortened part of the elastic cord below the draft line around the anchor tee and the loop connexion under clamping on the top of this.

Ground conditions

The ‘ball-back’ effect may vary depending on grass length and firmness of the ground. Please be aware that side slopes and poor grass covering in the landing zone can cause the ball to go off course. Always test before use!

Spare balls replacement

O.K - keep playing              replace immediately the ball

The golf ball it is one expendable part - orange part out- replace immediately the ball

Replacing the ball

Two steps to remove the old ball:

  1. Pull the loops from the ball and main cords in opposing directions
  2. Lead the ball through the open loop of the ball cord

Two steps to install the new ball:

  1. Lead the closed loop of the ball cord through the open loop of the main cord.
  2. Lead the ball through the open line of the ball cord and pull both loops tight.

Maintenance

All lines can be washed by 40°C in the washing machine.

Safety tips

  • Only use the Golf-Back-Ball on grass.
  • Ensure that no people, animals, trees, fences or other large / sharp objects are present on the target line and playing area. This also applies to the space above the
playing area. Ensure also that no people and animals are present in the safety zone.
  • The transportation frame must be removed and placed clear of the hitting and landing zone prior to use.
  • Do not stand or position the ball directly in line with the anchor tee and your target. Between player, anchor tee and ball direction should not be formed any line. For your safety, place allways the ball minimum 2-3 metres to the left / right of the anchor tee..
  • Don’t step on the cord when hitting the ball.
  • Never strike the ball on its connection point with the cord.
  • Ensure the cord is untangled and free of impediments prior to use.
  • After use roll up the cord on the transportation frame and store in dry conditions. Never leave Golf-Back-Ball outside for long periods.
Do not allow the cord to come into contact with fire, knives / scissors or other sharp implements which could damage it.
  • Prior and after use, be sure to check the cord for entanglements.
  • Should the cord become damaged, it must be replaced before Golf-Back-Ball is used again.
  • All cords should be replaced after approx 10,000 hits.
  • The golf ball has a limited life span and should be replaced if the surface becomes damaged or there are other signs of heavy use e.g. cuts. Refer to sales information for spare parts.
  • Do not carry Golf-Back-Ball in your hand luggage when flying.
